Birds

Birds
Literacy
Writing
Take a photo of a bird if you can see some around your house. If you can’t find any, you could use one of these pictures. Write a story about the bird with someone in your bubble, think about where it is, what the colours are, what it is doing and how the feathers might feel. You could get Mum to record your story, instead of writing it too.
You could even make a video.

Literacy

Reading
Listen to this fun story about NZ Birds.

Listen to this story about how the Kiwi lost his wings (A Maori Legend)

Numeracy
Go on a bird hunt, either outside or watch out the window - how many can you count in 1min? 4mins? 10mins?!

You could list the names of the birds you see, and make a tally chart over a few days to show how many you have seen. This is an example to remind you what a tally chart is!

Science/Music

Listen to the sounds of the birds - can you make the same sounds?

Art/Craft/Sensory
Art
Can you draw your favourite NZ Bird? Use feathers and leaves to make your bird fluffy and colourful.

Music

Listen to this beautiful song about hearing the tui call in our paradise of New Zealand.

Can you learn some of the sign language in the song? We can share it with the class when we get back to school!
